Notice of Application for Electronic Waste Processing Facility

The Kansas Department of Health and Environment has reviewed an application to establish and operate an electronic waste processing facility sent by ITRenew, Inc. The proposed facility would be located at 15351 S. Green Rd., Olathe, Kansas, in a general industrial area (M-2). ITRenew, Inc. proposes to operate an electronic waste collection and shredding business. Electronic waste and scrap would be received and either refurbished, recycled, shredded, or disposed of in a municipal waste landfill as appropriate. No more than the following amounts for certain types of wastes are to be stored at the facility according to the submitted plans: 1,000 pounds of universal waste lamps, 10,000 pounds of batteries, and 10,000 pounds of LCD and CRT screens.

KDHE has reviewed the application and found it to be in conformance with state solid waste statutes and regulations.

KDHE is providing public notice of its intent to issue a permit to ITRenew, Inc. for the proposed solid waste processing facility described herein. A copy of the administrative record, which includes the draft permit and all information regarding this permit action, is available for public review until July 10, 2021 during normal business hours, Monday through Friday, at the following locations:

Additionally, the application form with primary permit information is available for public viewing via at http://www.kdheks.gov/waste/p_pubnot_sw.html. Anyone wishing to comment on the draft permit information should submit written statements postmarked no later than July 10, 2021 to Joel Billinger. After consideration of all comments received, the director of the Division of Environment will make a final decision to issue the permit. Notice of the decision will be given to anyone who submitted written comments during the comment period and to those who requested notice of the final permit decision.
